Procurement Project for 24 m³ Sludge Tipper Trucks by a Municipal Sanitation Department in Lanzhou: Equipment Selection and Solution Analysis Under High-Load Operating Conditions. In Northwest China—particularly in Lanzhou and its surrounding areas—municipal sanitation departments routinely face heavy-duty sludge removal tasks. This sludge typically originates from wastewater treatment plants, sewer pipeline desilting operations, and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, and is characterized by high moisture content, strong corrosivity, and long transport distances. Recently, a municipal sanitation department in Lanzhou publicly tendered for 24 m³ sludge tipper trucks built on SINOTRUK chassis for daily sludge transportation. Based on publicly available tender information, this article interprets the project’s core requirements, equipment configuration specifications, and Chengli Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd.’s winning solution, focusing on key elements including heavy-duty operational design, dustproof sealing, and adaptability to arid, sandy environments.
Project Background and Core Challenges
According to publicly released tender information, the project’s budget is capped at approximately RMB XX million, with five (5) units of 24 m³ sludge tipper trucks required. Chassis must be SINOTRUK-branded, meeting China VI emission standards; cargo bodies must be corrosion-resistant; and the entire vehicle must be adapted to Lanzhou’s arid, windy, and sandy climatic conditions. The client reported the following operational pain points with their existing sludge transport vehicles:
• Equipment fatigue due to high-load usage: Average daily mileage exceeds 200 km, with frequent loading cycles causing fatigue cracking in hydraulic systems and cargo body structures.
• Inadequate dustproof sealing: Due to Lanzhou’s severe sand and dust conditions, sludge leakage or airborne dust during transport pollutes road surfaces, while ingress of sand and dust into hydraulic systems accelerates component wear.
• Poor adaptability to desert-like environments: Short filter maintenance intervals—air and oil filters require frequent replacement under dusty conditions, increasing operational costs.
• Corrosion issues: Acidic or alkaline components in sludge severely corrode cargo bodies and piping systems.
Interpretation of Chengli Special Purpose Vehicle’s Winning Solution
Chengli Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd. delivered five (5) 24 m³ sludge tipper trucks, each modified on SINOTRUK chassis, for this tender. The solution incorporates targeted optimizations addressing the above challenges. Key design features are outlined below:
1. Heavy-Duty Operational Design: Reinforced Structure and Hydraulic System
Chengli’s solution utilizes a SINOTRUK chassis (model reference: CLW5250ZWXZ6—designed based on similar parameters in the knowledge base), equipped with a reinforced frame and thickened leaf springs, increasing load-carrying capacity by approximately 15%. The hydraulic system employs a dual-cylinder lifting mechanism, achieving a lift angle exceeding 50°, ensuring rapid unloading of highly viscous sludge and minimizing residue. The cargo body is fabricated from premium weathering steel, with critical weld seams subjected to ultrasonic testing to prevent fatigue fractures under sustained high-load operation.
2. Dustproof Sealing and Desert-Environment Adaptability
To address Lanzhou’s severe sand and dust conditions, Chengli’s solution incorporates dual-layer rubber sealing strips on the rear cargo door, plus a hydraulic locking mechanism to ensure zero sludge leakage and zero dust emission during transport. The vehicle is fitted with an enhanced air filter (desert version), delivering >99.5% filtration efficiency and incorporating a pre-filter to extend filter replacement intervals to over 500 operating hours (versus 200 hours under standard conditions). Additionally, the hydraulic oil tank adopts a fully enclosed design with a breather
